Want to save money on your heating oil?

ACRE is an acronym for “Action For Communities of Rural England”. The ACRE Bulk Oil Buying Syndicate has been formed in order to obtain cheaper heating oils for individuals by negotiating prices on a bulk order. Charity Number 1080038

The annual £20.00 membership fee covers any number of orders within the years membership, thus making it ideal for spreading the cost throughout the year by regular top ups. Members who ordered in November 2011 saved £30 on 500 litres, already having recovered the £20 membership. On each future order within the membership period, savings will be 100%.

There is no condition regarding quantity you can order other than the 500 litres min., thereafter, the price per litre remains the same. Also there is no restriction as to how often you can place an order of 500 litres plus – you can even request a “Top Up”.

Membership forms can be downloaded from www.northantsacre.org.uk, completed and sent to Northamptonshire ACRE with a cheque for £20.00 prior to the next ordering date.

Warmington's pocket parks came about from an initiative led by Northants County Council.   NCC had endorsed the project for Pocket Parks to enable communities to have their own spaces.  The county council was the forerunner of promoting the modern-day pocket park concept in the UK - the concept is now a national one, but started here.  Originally for natural settings in an urban environment, the appeal of pocket parks spread.

The Big Green Park

This was constructed on derelict land owned by East Northants Council and was later transferred to the ownership of Warmington Parish Council. Big Green is a very quiet green area.   It also has some fruit (damsons which seem to disappear into bottles of gin yet to be marketed!).

The Orchard Park in Eaglethorpe

This was a part of an Orchard in the ownership of the Mill House and became vacant when the A605 was constructed, by-passing Warmington.  It is leased by NCC to the village on a peppercorn rent. The Orchard has apples, pears, plums of very many varieties some quite old, very many wildflowers including a difficult to rear Yellow Rattle as well as a walnut tree.

Background & Management

Warmington had two firsts with the parks - it was the first community to have two parks and the first to have an orchard.

Wildflowers are encouraged in both parks and biodiversity is encouraged by such initiatives as leaving nettles to grow in places.

At the official opening of the parks, a grand parade was enjoyed, proceeding from Big Green and progressing to the Orchard Park.   Various events have been held in the parks ranging from picnics, apple days and even a one-man theatre production (The flower of Gloster describing life on a narrowboat).

School children make use of the parks for various studies and the orchard pocket park is used daily by various walking groups and dog walkers.

The parks required maintenance and proper management to ensure the balance between sustainability, ecology and wildlife and useability.  There is a band of volunteers who meet every couple of months and as there as quite a few work does not take very long - if you would like to become involved, please get in touch via This email address is being protected from spambots. Warmington Village Hall Gigaclear wifi broadband

We have a modern well kept Village Hall in Church Street, (with thanks to a Lottery Grant of £96.000.00 in 2001 to update the premises and to include access for a Disabled Persons Toilet) and it is such an asset to our community life.  We are proud to offer fibre broadband wifi facilities at the hall, which have been provided free of charge by Gigaclear

Background

The Village Hall was purpose built and opened in May 1974. Prior to this, it was known as the Recreation Hut situated in Chapel Street. Due to legislation, costly work was essential to provide up to date facilities. At a Public Meeting it was decided to raise funds for a new Village Hall and Elton Estates kindly offered the present site for sale which was accepted.

In 1970 the Warmington New Village Hall Committee was formed to raise funds and indeed two of the members still currently serving on the present Village Hall Committee Maureen Eden and Elizabeth Dakteris.

The Hall is managed voluntarily by a Committee elected annually and representative members of Organisations. There is no involvement or assistance from any local or statutory Organisations or Local Authority. It is purely self financing and available for use by any persons or organisations wishing to hire at the discretion of the Committee.

The Hall has been used for Upholstery Classes, Indoor Bowls, Exercise Classes, Toddler Group, Horticultural Society, St Mary's Church, Women of Warmington (WOWS), Cinema, Parish Council Meetings, North Northants Council (Local Elections etc) and the Senior Citizens Annual Christmas Party. Also, many other bookings take place during the year for various events and occasions.  Parishioners regularly use the Hall for family occasions, Wedding Receptions, Christenings, birthday celebrations and even Ballroom Dancing etc. The Hall is available for hire by non parishioners but at a higher rate.

Fundraising events are essential to keep hire charges as low as possible and relies on income from these and donations for repairs and replacements when required.

Your continued support is greatly appreciated.
